Craig has an office in Park Slope, Brooklyn located at 435 15th St. between 8th Ave and Prospect Park West conveniently located 1 block from the 15th St. F and G subway. He also bikes to your home if you live in Park Slope or Windsor Terrace. Craig works Monday-Friday 9AM-6PM and accepts private pay. He will provide you with a monthly invoice for out-of-network reimbursement. Craig works with infants to preadolescence and specializes in: speech (enunciation), expressive language and receptive/auditory listening, reading and writing remediation, social skills, and feeding delays and difficulties. Michelle MacRoy-Higgins, PhD CCC-SLP, TSHH, Speech Language Pathologist

Dr. Michelle MacRoy-Higgins has worked as a Speech-Language Pathologist for nearly 15 years. She holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCCs) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), her New York State Speech-Language Pathology license and is certified as a Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped (TSHH). She received her B.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Geneseo, her M.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Adelphi University and her PhD in Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences from the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center. In addition to being a private practitioner, Michelle is an Assistant Professor in the Communication Sciences program at Hunter College (CUNY) and teaches graduate students in the areas of language development, language, phonological, articulation, motor speech and swallowing disorders in children. Michelle has worked clinically in a variety of settings including home-based, preschool, elementary school and private practice clinics; and has enjoyed working with a variety of children presenting with language, phonological, articulation, and feeding disorders ranging in age from birth through adolescents. Michelle’s clinical and research expertise is with children who are late talkers. She enjoys working with children and their families to develop individualized and evidenced-based treatment, while having fun and encouraging communication success.

Cathy Edwards, M.S. CCC-SLP, Speech Language Pathologist

Cathy brings her California cool to the East Coast with a laid back but professional sensibility with over twenty years of experience! Cathy is a New York licensed speech-language pathologist who has worked with babies to adolescents. She has worked in all types of environments from early intervention, preschools and elementary schools to private practice. She is excited about helping young children to adolescents achieve their full learning potential. She is experienced in working with a variety of speech and language disorders and delays including: late talkers, articulation/enunciation problems including apraxia and oral motor difficulties, language processing issues, reading and writing remediation, stuttering, autism spectrum, feeding delay, hearing impairment, and augmentative communication. She understands how these delays treated early on in development can later help develop social and academic competence. For school age children, Cathy incorporates each student’s curriculum into the language therapy session, so they can improve their vocabulary and grammatical development, listening and reading comprehension, expressive writing skills, organizational skills and more!

Maura Amentas, M.S., CCC-SLP, Speech Language Pathologist

Maura is a licensed speech-language pathologist and a Brooklyn native! She earned a BA in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania, from which she graduated summa cum laude. After graduating, Maura worked briefly in law, followed by a research position at Columbia University. While working, she completed her Master’s of Science in Speech Language Pathology at Columbia, from which she received several scholarships and worked as a Teaching Assistant for two graduate level courses. Maura has vast experience with pediatric populations of all ages, ranging from infant to young adult, and she has passionately pursued a career in the NYC public schools. She currently works as a speech pathologist at P.S. 261 in Boerum Hill and completed her clinical school practicum at P.S. 321 right here in Park Slope! She also has experience in hospital settings, clinics, and District 75 schools. Maura is adept at treating children with receptive and expressive language deficits, auditory processing difficulties, literacy issues, phonological disorders, and pragmatic language issues. She is particularly skilled at addressing speech-language issues as they relate to and impact classroom and academic performance while keeping therapy sessions engaging and motivating for the child. Additional areas of interest and expertise include articulation therapy (not just lisps!), narrative skill development, reading comprehension and verbal reasoning abilities. Maura is a firm believer in evidenced-based therapies to promote a child’s speech and language abilities in functional and resonant ways. Nicole Loperena, M.S., CCC-SLP, Speech Language Pathologist

Nicole is a Brooklyn native and a New York state and American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) certified speech-language pathologist. Having worked in both general and special education schools in New York City she is also a certified Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD). Nicole earned her B.A. from the George Washington University in Washington, DC and her M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology at Hunter College, where she was granted awards for outstanding academic and clinical achievement. Nicole has worked with individuals with speech-language impairments from infancy up through adulthood. She has worked in a variety of settings including both general and special education schools, speech-language clinics, and hospitals throughout New York City. Her evaluations and therapy have focused on aiding children with autism and learning disabilities, language delay, literacy issues (including phonics, spelling, comprehension, and writing), articulation and phonological impairment, auditory processing, social and interactive skills, narrative skills, and swallowing and feeding disorders. Nicole is also trained and experienced with the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems including picture exchange communication and high-tech speech-generating devices. Nicole is committed to creating a fun and supportive learning environment to help children foster language, communication, and literacy development. She greatly enjoys working with children and is excited to guide families along as crucial players in the therapy process!

Amy Bielefeld, MS, CCC-SLP, Speech Language Pathologist

Amy is a licensed Speech Language Pathologist and a certified Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities. She earned her Masters of Science degree in Speech Language Pathology at Teachers College, Columbia University, and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Bowdoin College. Amy holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), and has been trained in PROMPT (PROMPTs for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets). Amy has been practicing speech-language pathology for five years, including at the Rose F. Kennedy Center, Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM), and privately in clients’ homes. Amy has experience working with children from infancy through early adolescence to address speech and/or language delays and disorders, including social/pragmatic difficulties and issues related to autistic spectrum disorders. At CHAM, Amy participated in the Craniofacial clinic and Williams Syndrome clinic, and has developed an interest and knowledge base in treating children with a history of cleft palate. She maintains the belief that therapy should be engaging for children of all ages, while addressing their speech or language needs and goals. Amy enjoys developing play-based therapy activities for toddlers and preschoolers, and enjoyable, often literacy-based, activities for school-age clients.

Suzanne Ashman-Kipervaser, M.S., CCC-SLP, Bilingual Speech Language Pathologist

Suzanne is a licensed bilingual speech-language pathologist. She earned her Masters of Science in speech-language pathology and her bilingual extension certification at Teachers College, Columbia University. She was there awarded several scholarships, grants and fellowships. Suzanne is a native speaker of Spanish and English, and has extensive training in the assessment and treatment of speech and language disorders in bilingual/bicultural children. She is also a French speaker with intermediate level fluency. She has a special interest in and experience treating children with autistic spectrum disorders, including children with receptive and expressive language deficits, pragmatic language difficulties and those who benefit from augmentative and alternative communication devices. Additional areas of interest and expertise include the treatment of phonological disorders, the development of narrative skills and verbal reasoning abilities in early school-aged children, as well as early speech and language development. With younger children, sessions are often theme-based to promote learning of novel vocabulary and linguistic concepts. With children of all ages, activities are often literature-based, and sessions may incorporate language-rich craft activities or science experiments to elicit and strengthen language at all levels. During each session, her goal is to employ evidenced-based practices to enhance language abilities in a creative, nurturing and meaningful way. She aims not only to build self-confidence and foster a love for communication in each child, but also to empower parents by providing them with practical, and easy to implement techniques so that they may further support their children’s communicative abilities. Suzanne was formerly a member of a multi-disciplinary team at the Children’s Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center, at the Rose F. Kennedy Center. There she evaluated and treated children from birth to pre-adolescence. Suzanne also currently practices at the New York League for Early Learning- YAI/ LifeStart program, as a bilingual speech-language evaluator.

Kristi Lalor, M.S., CCC-SLP, Speech Language Pathologist

Kristi Lalor is a licensed speech-language pathologist who provides assessment and treatment services of children from birth through preadolescence who exhibit various forms of communication disorders. he received her Bachelors of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders at Syracuse University. She then earned her Masters of Art in Speech-Language Pathology from Hofstra University. Kristi holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and is certified as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities. Additionally, Kristi has pursued post-graduate training in the areas of pervasive developmental disorder/autism spectrum disorder and PROMPT®. Kristi provides both assessments and treatment for children with pervasive developmental and autism spectrum disorders, as well as children exhibiting developmental delays, sensory integration disorder, feeding difficulties, and other various communication disorders (i.e., expressive and receptive language delay, pragmatic language delay, and speech/phonological delays) within both school and home environments. Kristi successfully works as part of an interdisciplinary team, developing and building functional communication skills in children by integrating her work with parents and related professionals to provide maximal opportunities for practice and generalization of newly learned skills. Kristi provides assessment and treatment for the following population: birth through pre-adolescense. She develops individualized, multisensory treatment approaches to facilitate improved functional communication skills. In addition, Kristi utilizes a language-based approach to decrease sensory aversion of various foods following a systematic hierarchy of introduction for toddlers and children with sensory integration disorder or those characterized as “picky eaters.” Kristi views and includes families as team members in helping to best support a child’s development.

Jocelyn M. Wood, M.A., CCC-SLP, Bilingual Speech Language Pathologist

Jocelyn is a licensed bilingual speech-language pathologist. She earned her Master of Arts degree and bilingual extension from Hofstra University and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and Spanish language from Boston University. She has conducted research on the topics of bilingualism and aging, as well as the cognitive effects of bilingual language exposure on infants. Jocelyn holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and is certified as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities. Additionally, Jocelyn has pursued post-graduate training in the areas pediatric feeding, genetic disorders and PROMPT®.
Jocelyn has experience in both assessment and treatment of children from bilingual/bicultural homes, as well as monolingual homes. Her areas of interest and expertise include feeding intervention for medically fragile children, early speech and language development, phonological awareness and literacy skills, and vocabulary development. Jocelyn currently works with school-age children on vocabulary development, phonological awareness, auditory processing skills, and literacy. Jocelyn also provides SAT skill building to high school students with learning disabilities and has experience working with children from bilingual/bicultural homes, children who are medically fragile or have been recently discharged from acute care settings, and children with genetic disorders. Her focus is on multi-sensory programs that build on a child’s individual learning style. Jocelyn works with families to help them to better understand their child’s disability and to create a supportive learning environment for their child.

Stephanie Brzostek, M.S., CCC-SLP, TSHH, CHES, Speech Language Pathologist

Stephanie Brzostek is a New York and Connecticut licensed speech-language pathologist. Stephanie has been practicing in the greater New York area for nearly a decade. She maintains her national certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Originally from Connecticut, Stephanie attended Boston University and then University of Wisconsin-Madison for her graduate degree. Both schools boast top programs in Communication Disorders and Stephanie graduated magna cum laude from both programs. Stephanie greatly enjoys the challenge of helping each child become motivated and feel ownership of his or her own therapy. She has been fortunate to work in a variety of clinical settings, including hospitals, private practices, preschools, and elementary schools. Stephanie also enjoys providing home-based services to children of all ages. Stephanie is trained in a variety of therapeutic techniques, including PROMPT and Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS). She has many years of experience treating children with difficulties in feeding, articulation, oral motor difficulties, language learning, language expression, auditory processing, and social language use. One of Stephanie’s passions is helping families learn how to focus on therapeutic tasks during daily activities, understand their child’s needs, capitalize on their child’s strengths, and advocate for themselves and their children both at school and within the community. For this reason, Stephanie just completed a graduate certificate in Public Health specializing in Health Education at New York Medical College in Westchester, New York.

Sydney Wesolowski , M.S. CCC-SLP, Speech Language Pathologist

Sydney is an ASHA certified Speech-Language Pathologist, as well as a certified Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Difficulties. Originally from Massachusetts, she received her Bachelors of Science in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from Northeastern University, and her Masters of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the MGH Institute of Health Professions. During graduate school, she took specialty coursework focusing on Autism Spectrum Disorders, Augmentative and Alternative Communication, and Specialized Literacy Remediation. She began her career at a public middle school outside of Boston, MA, where she learned the importance of incorporating curriculum material into therapy, teacher input, and parent involvement in treatment. She saw students in grades 6 through 8 with receptive and expressive language disorders in both inclusion and pull-out settings, co-taught Language-Based English, and ran social pragmatics groups. After moving to New York in August 2011, she has worked at a private preschool, where she sees children ages 3 to 5 with developmental delays. Well-versed in several programs for specialized reading remediation and social pragmatics including Orton-Gillingham, Read Naturally, Reading with TLC, and Michelle Garcia Winner Social Thinking Curriculum, she tailors her sessions to suit the needs and learning style of the child.

Emily Harms, M.S., CCC-SLP, Speech Language Pathologist

Emily is a licensed speech language pathologist who holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communicative Disorders from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Masters of Science in Communication Disorders from the University of Texas-Dallas. Emily is passionate about working with children, and she has spent a large part of her career working in public schools, where she served children ages 3 to 14 presenting with a variety of articulation/phonology, language and fluency disorders, as well as children with impaired pragmatic/social skills. She has specific training and expertise in autism spectrum disorders, augmentative communication, and play-based assessment. Emily’s therapy style is play-based with young children; following the child’s lead helps determine preferences and strong motivators. For school-aged children, she believes that it is important to incorporate a variety of tasks that are functionally relevant to the curriculum being taught at school. In addition, Emily leads small groups for children with pragmatic/social skills difficulties. She enjoy collaborating with parents and professionals and believes team work is important throughout the therapy process. Her ultimate goal is to help children gain the necessary tools to become effective independent communicators and to foster self-confidence that will serve them well throughout their lives. She provides assessment and treatment for children between the ages of 2 1/2 to adolescence in both the home setting as well as a private practice on the Upper West Side.

Mahreen Daruwala, M.S. CCC-SLP, Bilingual Speech Language Pathologist

Mahreen Daruwala is a licensed bilingual speech-language pathologist who graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University with a Masters of Science in Speech-Language Pathology. She obtained her Bachelors of Science in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from Long Island University C. W. Post campus. In addition, Mahreen is a certified as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Difficulties. Besides holding a bilingual certification in Hindi, she is fluent in Gujarati and Urdu. During her graduate studies, Mahreen participated in a study abroad program in Bolivia, where she worked at a children’s hospital for one month. Here, Mahreen focused on providing parent training and teaching the basic use of augmentative and alternative communication methods. Mahreen is currently working in charter schools serving elementary and middle school children presenting with articulation/phonological disorders, receptive and expressive language delays, mild autism spectrum disorders, and fluency disorders. She has also provided services to preschool children at homes for articulation and phonological disorders as well as language delay. Her sessions with school age children are often literature based and related to the school curriculum. She enjoys collaborating with teachers and other professionals and maintains constant communication with parents. When providing services at home she encourages parents participation during therapy and she helps them facilitate carryover strategies. Mahreen has extensive experience and interest in assessment and intervention of speech-language delays as well as in providing parent training. Her interests also include: bilingual speech/language development and disorders, autism spectrum disorders, pragmatic skills therapy, language delay, phonological/articulation disorders, literacy training, and parent training.

Sarah Stuntebeck, M.S. CCC-SLP, Speech Language Pathologist

Sarah received her Bachelors and Masters of Science in Communicative Disorders from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has been a practicing speech-language pathologist for nearly a decade and has been fortunate to work in a variety of clinical settings, including hospitals, private practice clinics, and elementary and high schools. Sarah also enjoys providing home and community-based services to children of all ages. Formerly the Clinical Director at a pediatric private practice clinic, she has worked collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team of therapists, parents, families, and other professionals in order to design treatment program that best meet the needs and maximize potential of each child. Sarah has specific training and expertise in the areas of articulation and phonological development, tongue thrust, speech and resonance disorders due to cleft lip, palate, and other craniofacial anomalies, fluency disorders, later language development, pragmatic/social skills, and early speech-language development. She also helps students with speech-language and learning disabilities successfully prepare for the transition from high school to college and career. Sarah works with children of all ages and abilities and has specific training and expertise in the areas of articulation and phonological development, tongue thrust, speech and resonance disorders due to cleft lip, palate, and other craniofacial anomalies, fluency disorders, later language development, pragmatic/social skills, and early speech-language development. She is also passionate about helping students with speech-language and learning disabilities successfully prepare for the transition from high school to college and career. Her approach to intervention involves functionally relevant therapy objectives, maximizing multi-modality communication, and linking language and literacy development. She combines her theoretical knowledge of speech-language, neurological, and child development with innovative evidence-based practices to develop truly individualized speech-language therapy programs. Sarah is committed to creating a supportive, safe, and fun learning environment where each child experiences success and develops the confidence they need to be effective communicators.
